Weekly Message - October 12, 2020 Part 1:2

Reported by david_worst@ipsd.org on 10/12/20

Hello Spring Brook Parents –

REMINDER: The deadline to select the hybrid model is Noon on Monday, October 12, 2020.
Beginning the week of November 2, the district is implementing a hybrid model that offers students in-person instruction on scheduled days. Parents who want their child to participate in the hybrid model to receive instruction at school on select days need to enter their selection in ParentVUE by Noon on TODAY. Parents who participate and are eligible for transportation will also be asked if their child will require bus service.

Parents who wish to have their child continue with remote learning do not need to make a selection at this time. Students will automatically continue in remote learning unless parents select the hybrid model.

Please note, the selection to participate in the hybrid model is for the second quarter only. Students will not be able to switch between remote learning and hybrid for the remainder of the second quarter after Monday at Noon.

Please visit Return to School to review the plan for the second quarter.

To select the hybrid model, log in to ParentVUE and click on the Student Info tab, then click Edit Information. The Return to School option will appear near the bottom of the page. Step-by-step instructions are here.

4th and 5th Grade Remote Choir (Spring Brook Singers) Starting On Oct. 29

Despite the challenges of Covid-19, we will be starting chorus this year (Spring Brook Singers)! Chorus at this time will be remote (not in-person) and will be offered to 4th and 5th grade students as is typical. Due to chorus being remote, I wanted to give you an idea of what chorus will 'look like'. Remote chorus this year will include singing some of our normal chorus songs, coaching on posture, breathing, reading a musical score, sight reading, practicing solfege, and learning warm-ups and canons. Other possibilities include opportunities to hear from professional musicians and/or recording artists, as well as middle school and high school students and guest teachers.

I’d like to remind you of the numerous academic and social/emotional benefits of participating in a musical ensemble. Students learn key 21st Century skills by joining together in a musical ensemble -- critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity are natural outcomes of the study of music. These invaluable skills will serve them well in whatever academic or vocational settings students find themselves in the coming years.

Although this schedule may need to be flexible as school schedules change, we are planning to meet virtually on Thursdays from 3:45-4:15pm. Registration is open from Oct. 12-26 to join, and costs $0 since we won't be buying shirts or having in-person parties!

Parents and their amazing 4th and/or 5th grade kids can sign up at this link: https://forms.gle/NHCCsJFP8VWXVHNU7

Dough Raising Yogurt Beach- Monday, October 12th.

Please join the Spring Brook PTA for our first Dough Raising event of the year at Yogurt Beach on Monday October 12, 2020 from 12 pm-9 pm (3027 English Rows Avenue). The kids are off from school, so stop by for a sweet treat and support our Spring Brook PTA. Yogurt Beach will generously donate 30% of all proceeds back to the PTA! Please let them know that you are with Spring Brook.

PTA Fall Fundraiser

The PTA's ONLY Fall Fundraiser is underway! The fundraiser through Boon Supply and AP Magazines will run completely online from October 7-28, and all items will be shipped to homes. This makes the fundraiser easier for parents, with no items to pick up at school, and no collecting money or checks. With the help of parents, staff and students last year, the PTA raised over $5,000 for Spring Brook through the fall fundraiser, so we are counting on this one to continue supporting our school!

We are very excited about all of the new environmentally friendly products Boon Supply offers, including reusable items, beautiful recycled wrapping paper, quality kitchen products, and trendy accessories. There are some great prizes for the students to earn, and even some fantastic incentives for our teachers to participate and encourage their class to participate as well!
