Principal's Weekly Message - December 18, 2017

Reported by on 12/18/17

Hello Spring Brook Parents,

Intramural Basketball/Volleyball

Our after school intramural fourth and fifth grade basketball and volleyball programs are underway. Due to space and safety considerations, please adhere to the policy that only students should attend their scheduled games. Parents and family members will be invited to attend the championship games. Please also arrange for pick-up at 4:30 on intramural game days. Thanks for your help!

Dress for Outside Recess Reminder

The students go outside for recess if the temperature combined with the wind chill is five degrees or above. Please make sure you children have a winter coat, gloves and hat. Also, if the students want to play in the snow, they must have snow pants and boots.

5Essentials Parent Survey

Teachers, parents, and middle and high school students across Illinois have the opportunity to participate in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey was designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child's school. As a parent, your voice is essential to help us understand the conditions at your child's school and guide improvement.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey is administered online by the University of Chicago, on behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education. The state will provide survey results for individual schools only if a school has at least 20 percent of parents take the survey. If you have children attending more than one school, we ask that you complete the survey for each school. You may also complete the survey more than once if you have more than one child in the same school. All survey responses will be kept confidential. University of Chicago asks parents for an email address when they begin the survey only for the purpose of sending a confirmation once the survey is completed. University of Chicago will never connect your identity and survey responses to you or your child or share the information with your school, the district or the Illinois State Board of Education.

To take this short survey:

1. Visit
2. Type and then select Dupage as District 204's County location. This is the county associated with the district, not the location of an individual school.
3. Type your school's name into the School field and then select your school.

Lost and Found

We have collected many items in the Lost and Found since the start of school. Just a heads up that all items will be donated over Winter Break. If you are missing items please have your child check the Lost and Found tables by the office and by the lunchroom.

Picture Book O’Rama

Picture books are a perfect balance of illustrations and text. No one is ever too young or old to enjoy picture books! Children can create words to wordless picture books even if they can’t read, and there are many picture book on topics specifically for older readers that would be perfect for grades 5th-adult. To celebrate picture books at Spring Brook, we are continuing our Picture Book O'Rama through December 21st. Although reading picture books at home don’t count as part of the classroom totals for Spring Brook’s Picture Book O’Rama, we want to encourage reading them, especially this month!

Spring Brook Adult Social

Mark your calendars for the 4th Annual Spring Brook Adult Social to be held at Nevin’s Brewing Company on Saturday, February 3rd from 7:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. Last year, the Adult Social raised more than $6,500! These funds went to purchase music risers, iPads and Chromebooks for the LMC, author visits, class field trips and so much more! This is the LARGEST fundraiser of the year for the PTA and we need YOUR support.

Backpack fliers went home with your child last week that you can send in with check or cash to purchase tickets for the event. BUT, this year you can also purchase your tickets ONLINE. By purchasing your tickets online, you will already be set up and registered for this year’s ONLINE/MOBILE silent auction. Just a few of the great things we have to bid on this year are FOUR one-day park hopper Walt Disney World tickets, a 2-night/3-day stay at Embassy Suites, an autographed Anthony Rizzo baseball, an Ultimate Ninjas birthday party and MUCH MORE!
