Testing Notification Statement

District 204 offers a variety of academic programming to meet the needs of our students. Although assessment occurs throughout the school year for all students, some programs require additional information gathering in order to determine appropriate placement. The Identification Timeline, located on the District website, ( provides general information regarding identification for the Project Arrow Gifted Program and the Accelerated Mathematics Program. Letters with specific testing details will be mailed from schools to parents of students for whom further evaluation is recommended. Additional information about either of these programs can be found on the District website or by contacting your child’s classroom teacher or school’s Student Services Coordinator.

  •  Cognitive Abilities Test administered to all students in Grades 2 and 5
  • Notification of PA assessment procedures



  •    Letters sent to parents of 1st-5th grade students who are recommended for PA testing




  • Selected elementary students participate in PA testing (Iowa Test of Basic Skills and Cognitive Abilities Test)




  •   Letters sent home to parents of 2nd -5th  grade students regarding permission to participate in Accelerated Math Testing


  •  Letters sent to parents of all 5th grade Accelerated Math students regarding math placement tests (Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test ) for Grade 6 PA Math




  •  Placement tests for Accelerated Math administered to all Grade 2 and selected Grade 3 – 5 students
  • Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) (Grades 3-5)


  • 5th grade accelerated math students : IAAT Testing for Grade 6 PA Math



  • Letters sent home to parents of students qualifying for Accelerated Math for the upcoming school year (Grades 3-5)


  • Letters sent home to parents of students qualifying for Project Arrow at the elementary and middle school for the upcoming school year (Grades 2-5)




  •  Elementary PA students placed in cluster classrooms for the upcoming school year


Purpose of Standardized Assessment Instruments:

o    Illinois Standards Achievement Test-individual student achievement relative to the Illinois Learning Standards

o    Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test – mathematical aptitude

o    Cognitive Abilities Test – abstract thinking and reasoning

o    Iowa Tests of Basic Skills– academic knowledge in reading and mathematics
